MY WATCH IS STOPPING INTERMITANTLY - MAGNETISM MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM
From time to time we receive watches for repair with recurring complaints of stopping or losing time intermittently, often at night.
The cause is usually magnetism from bed underlays, cell phones and other electronic devices with magnetic components
including speakers and microwaves. Because quartz analogue watches use tiny electromagnetic motors they are
susceptible to magnetic influences but removing the watch from the source of magnetism usually leaves no lasting
damage and the watch will run normally.
MY WATCH HAS CONDENSATION UNDER THE GLASS - YOU NEED TO CHECK A FEW THINGS
Check that the glass is not cracked or chipped. If a screw crown model check that the screw crown has been used in accordance
with instructions in the instruction booklet. Also check whether the watch is being worn in hot water, e.g. shower, spa pool,
as the seals may have deteriorated
MY WATCH IS CAUSING A RASH / THE PLATING ON THE BACK OF THE WATCH IS PITTING
- YOU MIGHT HAVE AN ALLERGY TO PLATING
Other than those made from titanium, all watches have a nickel content. In the case of Olympic watches the nickel
content is very low and is generally in accordance with European Union laws EN1811 and EN12472. For consumers
who may have an allergy problem it is recommended that they first consider the purchase of a titanium watch,
followed by stainless steel.
HOW LONG SHOULD MY WATCH BATTERY LAST?
Olympic watches use Ronda Swiss designed movements which have an average battery life of 4 years - If your watch has a date feature the battery will usually die while trying to change the date at around midnight. When the battery is changed the watch should be water tested to it's depth rating, as marked on the case. The seals should also be checked for deterioration/wear and replaced if necesary.
HOW LONG IS MY WARRANTY?
Olympic Watches all have a 2 year comprehensive manufacturers warranty. This covers manufacturing faults. Wear and tear or customer damage are not covered by the warranty. Please refer to the Consumer Guarantees Act. More
WHAT IS AN ATM?
Divers and others use the word atmosphere and "ATM" in relation to pressures that are relative to mean atmospheric pressure at sea level (1.013 bar). For example, a partial pressure of oxygen is calibrated typically using air at sea level, so is expressed in units of atm.
The old European unit technical atmosphere (AT) is roughly equal to the gauge pressure under 10 m of water; 1 at = 98066.5 Pa.
HOW ACCURATE SHOULD MY OLYMPIC WATCH BE?
An Olympic quartz watch is accurate to within 2 minutes per year.
The quartz crystal is the time standard. By vibrating at an extremely high and therefore stable frequency of 32,768 oscillations per second, the synthetic quartz crystal ensures the almost perfect precision of quartz watches.
